Background

Heidi Richardson established the firm in 1984 after a seven-year association with William Turnbull Associates of San Francisco.

Size and Service

Richardson Architects provides full architectural and interior design services from site selection through construction and furniture selection and installation. The size of the firm also allows for a real team approach within the office so that the best talents and knowledge are available to every client.

Approach to Design

We pride ourselves on our ability to clearly define design objectives based upon the clients’ individual tastes and style. We then rely upon our expertise in terms of design and technology to find the best solutions.

Working with Consultants and Contractors

We seek out firms that bring the same creativity to the project as we do and then work together to give the client the best possible result whether it be in engineering, landscape or actual construction. We have established relationships with many contractors. We recommend bringing the builder in early in the process to allow for the best-cost values possible. We are involved in assisting the process of negotiated bid for smaller renovations as well as competitive bid for larger scale projects. We work closely with the contractor to monitor costs, provide in field follow-up and oversee construction.

Public Service

The firm encourages public service and involvement in the community. Heidi Richardson served for many years as chair of the San Francisco Advisory Design Review Panel a neighborhood mediation service; this experience has given her a thorough and valuable understanding of the internal processes of local planning and building committees. She maintains a strong involvement in the Harvard Design School Loeb Library. She was appointed to the Planning Commission by the City of Mill Valley in 2008.
