Guesthouse | Woodside,
California
This family of five needed an accessory building which could be used alternatively and concurrently as an au-pair living space, a guest house and a parental retreat from the chaos of the main house.
Located on six and a half acres on the San Francisco Peninsula, the site already had a barn, a pool-house with attached garage, and a main residence. The design is a contemporary “spin” on the concept of a cottage.
Reflective of the East Coast seaside dwellings, this transplanted “cottage” has large sliding doors and over-scaled double hung windows to connect it to the outside. Alignments of bead-board throughout the ceiling, built-in furniture and walls are anything but casual. Sharp colors and clean lines belie understated appropriateness to give the cottage a fresh and playful “spin”.
