This single storey family house had been previously renovated without taking full advantage of the spectacular site at the end of the Tiburon Peninsula with panoramic views from Mt.Tamalpais in the west to San Francisco Bay and the City beyond to the east.
The house also did not easily connect to the site and the gardens below.
We enlarged the floor area of the existing living/dining space and raised the ceiling in order to allow for more windows and light into this main entertaining space. In order to maintain the structural integrity of this room the steel frame is carefully concealed above the windows in a soffit and in the fireplace mass. Patios and decks were created on either side for easy exterior access. The family room/kitchen underwent a similar transformation to make a smooth flowing living space surrounding the gardens. A new 500 square foot guesthouse on the east further defines the front courtyard on the south side.
Warm woods and wall colors enrich and enliven the large volumes created.
