Historic House Renovation
This historic Mill Valley structure had gone through many lives: home for unwed mothers, hippie haven, and finally a single family residence.
Our clients had used it as a second home for a while and as they approached retirement, they wanted to expand for a more permanent use.
The lot is long and narrow, running from a busy arterial to across Corte Madera creek. We were required to maintain the final elevation but able to add to the rear where we designed a large family kitchen area with a master suite above. Both window patterns on both floors recall the glassed in sunporches of the original structure.
A small writing studio in the back by the creek is his sanctuary. Our clients love color and we took full advantage of this to bring new life to this storied old structure with its checkered past.
