Greenhouse in Woodside

Having been badly damaged in a storm and in need of repair, this existing greenhouse was designed to provide the client, an avid gardener, an updated structure to accommodate seedlings for the property as well as indoor hothouse for orchids and other plants. A key design request was to maintain the character of the original wood structure.

The design solution incorporates a modern, Kalwall translucent ceiling – an upgrade from the original corrugated plastic paneled roof. Maintaining adequate heat and ventilation was critical and solved through the use of mechanical fans and operable windows and skylights.

A separate room houses the potting shed, flower arranging area and utility sink. As a sculptural object on the property, the updated greenhouse complements the landscape and mingles among the many other garden sculptures in the owner’s collection.
